Happy New Year to everyone!! If you are reading this on a PDA or Blackberry you may want to wait until you get to a computer to read this.

We are just a few weeks away from our first competition and we have quite a few new families so I want to make sure I remind you to review the competition dates so you can block it out now. Although I have had the competition dates posted for awhile I wanted to point out to those that may not have figured out how to go to the Team Information Pages the following.

Our first competition is the weekend of February 14th. Just for those of you have not realized yet it is both Valentines day and Presidents day weekend. I can't tell you how many times people write down the dates of competitions but don't realize that they are on holiday weekends until it is too late.

Please do the following
1) Go to the team website and click on Upcoming competitions (While your there add it to your bookmarks) write them down on your calendar, share this information with your family, especially to your significant others and exes......This will alleviate many (not all) headaches... :o)

2) For the issues that are absolutely unchangeable, please, give us more than 5 weeks notice (so that we can rework the number :0( not a preference as it wastes everybody's time and confuses the dancers), or

3) If your timing issue is only during certain hours of one of the days, let me know as soon as possible and we will find a way to make it work for you and everyone else but I can't fix anything unless I know there is an issue. Also know that you won't be the only family with issues and in order to plan accordingly. Please do not wait until you get the final schedule, hoping that you dodged a bullet. ( a warning though, please do not ask me to change something so your child can go to a birthday party. I'm thinking more in the line of a school interview, a close family bar or bat mitzvah or the like) Since we don't get the exact competition schedule until 7 days before the competition we ask that you keep the Sat and Sunday of each competition weekend open (groups are never on a Friday). Competitions that block out a Friday for competition only do so for overflow and is only for solo/duets/trios. There are times when we get the schedule sooner. We let you know as soon as we have the information as we know that you want to schedule the rest of your life.

On the Team web page there are Competition FAQ's that if read should answer most if not all of your questions about what to expect on a competition weekend.

Please be on time, work hard, do not talk in class, be respectful of everyone, put your best foot forward.

WELCOME: to a brand new dance year!!!! And.... it will be the best ever!!!!

Congratulations to our newest team members and their families. We are very happy to welcome you all to our Family!!!

Just a couple of Notes: Especially for New Team Parents.

1) Please make sure your dancer is dressed and ready, warmed up at least 15 minutes before the scheduled rehearsal, and be prepared for the rehearsal to end up to 20 minutes after the time listed. There are times when a choreographer is trying to work something out and the creative mind can't be cut short by a silly thing like TIME....:o)>
We will do our best to be courteous with your time!

2) If your dancer has regular classes on Saturday (most dancers do) they may have some time off between classes and rehearsals. Make sure you know your class times and rehearsal times and schedule lunches, parties, etc accordingly. The schedule will be posted on the door of the A studio (the largest one) by 10am each Saturday and online on the team news webpage. If there are any major changes to the Saturday Schedule less than 2 days before, you will be emailed and /or called. Please make sure your dancer has water, snacks or lunch if needed. This time is a real bonding time for the girls and is almost as important to them as the actual dance class. Feel free to ask questions.

3) Team fees are charged on a monthly basis starting in October and ending in August. We must have a credit card account or Bank Account on file. Please let us know if your account is not being charged as you will be responsible for the entire balance.

5) All team members are required to have a team uniform which includes a MnR Dance Team Warm Up, Black jazz pants, black mnr Leo, black Team Skort, black biker shorts and team garment bag. We will be measuring all the dancers in the next couple of weeks to determine their sizing.

Below is a spreadsheet which is listed by routine that lists the following:
How your hair should be when you perform (for Dress Rehearsal Buns are OK). For dress rehearsal everyone must arrive on Saturday the 20th with hair in a bun and makeup. Please print this out for reference.

hair and shoes 2007

NOTE: All new dance families please read the section below Competions: What to Expect. Also go to the link about making a bun. All dancers should arrive at least 1.5 hours prior to the time of your first dance hair in a bun (or hair style for first dance) Makeup on. We will touch up makeup if needed. Do not rely on other parents and teachers to do this. It is not OK to say "my daughter won't let me do it". We spend way too much time getting others ready that are late and not prepared than needed causing stress and bad feelings. We would like to spend the extra time rehearsing.

The Making of A Bun

Special Note for Soloists, Duets and Trios: Each soloist and one member from the duet/trio should have an extra copy of their music on CD. We will make one for you but you are responsible to bring it to the competition. We will take care of all group back up CD's. We have only had one or two music malfunctions in our history, but were lucky enough to have a back up.

More to Come!!!

Recently some of our dancers performed for the Taste of Brentwood and the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation this month. Here are some pictures from the event.

Congratulations to Roni for being selected as a finalist for the Ninth Annual Dance Under The Stars Choreography Festival for her piece "Last Goodbye" performed by Alex and Julia. They will be performing in the Finals on Sunday November 12, 2006 in Palm Springs.

If you are interested in supporting Roni please go to the website for more information. The Competition for Professionals Choreo for Professionals is Saturday and the Competition for Professionals Choreo for Ametures is Sunday. Last GoodBye is on Sunday.

Congratulations to our dance team that just returned from Las Vegas after participating in a week long competition week. All of our numbers performed at their best which is all that we can ever hope for. All the hard work and dedication certainly showed.

Congratulations: We have successfully completed our first competition of the season.

Lessons learned:
1) Competitions do run early and if you try to leave between numbers, you may not make it back in time.
2) Missing parts of costumes means everyone in the number has to remove parts of their costumes.
3) We still need to work on the Award Ceremony Etiquette.

Below is a link to a spreadsheet which will list by Group the type of shoes, tights and how your dancers hair for competition.
